COURSE DESCRIPTION

Over the past decade, project management has taken a central role in civil society work and can be considered today as a tool for social change, a cornerstone to community development and to build and/or strengthen civil society organisations. As a consequence, gender mainstreaming strategies in development and management of projects has become a necessary skill for civil society organisations, development actors and project managers in other to achieve gender equality.

This course is designed to equip participants with gender mainstreaming skills for better management of community-based development programmes. The course will further provide participants with a concrete ‘step-by-step’ approach including hints and guidelines for developing and implementing a successful project from a gender-based perspective in order to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals, SDGs.

In this course, several issues and problem areas of project management for innovation will be covered. Particular attention will be paid to delivering products and services with speed and quality. Special emphasis will be placed on the importance of the project “users” and how project management involves them.

Each stage of program management tools and issues regarding gender inclusion are explored and practiced. A focus is put on the participant as agent of change in his/her organisation. Special attention is therefore put at gender mainstreaming at an individual level, program and organisational level. The participant leaves with a personal action plan for mainstreaming gender in his/her programs and organisations.

 

Course Objectives:

At the end of the course you:

  • are familiar with the basic concepts of gender, project and program management;
  • can assure that gender is mainstreamed in the project cycle, in identification, formulation, monitoring and evaluation;
  • can develop a theory of change;
  • can design project and programs, monitor and evaluate on gender equality;
  • can assess your organisation on strengths and weakness for mainstreaming gender;
  • the participant leaves with a personal action plan for mainstreaming gender in his/her programs and organisation.



BENEFITS

The overall benefit of this course is to provide participants with skills for gender mainstreaming in design and implementation of successful projects. The course can be used to establish/strengthen gender mainstreaming strategies of project management policies and practices both in the public and private sector.

Students who successfully complete the course will receive a GHRLTI Certification in Project Development and Management from a Gender Perspective.

Target Audience:
This course aims at project staff, advisers, leaders and members of coalitions and Networks, staff of NGOs and CBOs, donor agency field workers, volunteers, development actors, trainers, business students, government officials, desk officers and consultants, involved in facilitating integration of non discriminatory behavior and equality between men and women. A focus is put on the participant as agent of change in his/her organisation. For this course familiarity with project management will be beneficial. Furthermore, every opportunity will be taken for joint learning events for clients and GHRLTI staff.


Entry Requirement:

Students must have a current e-mail account, regular access to and general familiarity with the internet and mobile phones. Candidates should have a good written command of English language and high competence and comfort with computer and internet use.

Course Delivery:

Interaction with students will be via the Global Human Rights Leadership Training Institute training platform and all course notes and guidelines for study will be delivered and accessible to students in electronic format. (http://www.justicegroup.us/GHRLTI)

All the course modules is made available to the students at the beginning of the course. At the end of each module, an assignment is completed by the students and marked by the course experts. Assignments are in the form of written assignments.


Award of the Certificates:

Statistics from previous courses showed that submission of assignments and receiving online tutoring help participants to implement successful projects in their organisation and communities from a gender perspective. Certificates will be awarded only to those students who:

  1. Completed all assignments and Final Exam
  2. Obtain a combined final mark of 50% or more for the assignments and Final Exam


Successful students will receive the GHRLTI Certification in Project Development & Management from a Gender Perspective.


Course Fee:
The course tuition fee is US$300. Course fees include access to all course materials, expert support, assignments as well as postage and packaging of a certificate. The course fee is payable once confirmation of participation has been issued.

There is a limited amount of partial scholarships available for applicants from developing countries, based on financial need.

The deadline for application is 11th November 2017. While full tuition payment is due on 13th November 2017. However, applications will be accepted on a first-come-first-serve basis. Applications received after this deadline will not be considered.
